The vagus nerve, heart rhythm and massage: knowing the limits

A treatment name should not explain or treat palpitations. Learn the difference between a quiet massage session and appropriate care for heart symptoms.

A connection does not establish a treatment

The nervous system participates in regulating bodily functions. That does not mean a hands-on well-being session can correct an abnormal heart rhythm. We do not offer vagus massage as treatment for heart disease. Promises of lower blood pressure or a stronger heart would require a different level of evidence and a clinical setting.

What should you do about palpitations?

Recurring palpitations deserve medical assessment. Palpitations with chest pain, breathlessness or fainting require urgent help; call 112 for acute serious symptoms in Denmark. A massage appointment cannot determine whether stress is the cause. Do not wait for a booked well-being session to discuss symptoms that need prompt attention.

Why a watch reading is not enough

Pulse and other measurements can vary during the day. A difference before and after a relaxing break does not establish improved nerve function or prevention of disease. Do not use a single number to change medication yourself or dismiss symptoms. Bring relevant observations to a conversation with a healthcare professional instead.

Choosing massage for comfort

Once your health circumstances have been assessed, ask whether massage fits with your clinician's advice. Tell us about known conditions, medication and any tendency to feel dizzy. The purpose can be comfort and rest without a promise about heart function. We do not give instructions for pressing on the neck to alter pulse or stimulate a nerve. Clear limits help you make an informed choice about the service.
