The vagus nerve, digestion and massage: what can we say?
Digestive symptoms have different possible causes. Understand why massage can be chosen for comfort without being presented as treatment for digestive problems.

Digestive symptoms need their own assessment
Bloating, pain and a change in bowel habits do not establish that the vagus nerve needs activating. IBS, for example, involves a range of possible symptoms and care tailored to the individual. A massage clinic cannot diagnose it from a conversation about stress or tension. Start by seeking an explanation for symptoms that persist or concern you.

What can massage offer?
A session can provide time to rest if you enjoy touch and can lie comfortably. That does not demonstrate that digestion has normalised. We do not promise to treat IBS, reflux or constipation with vagus massage. Findings about medical nerve stimulation also cannot be transferred directly to hands-on massage.
Plan around your comfort
Tell us if certain positions or touch on your abdomen feel unpleasant. You can choose to leave that area out entirely. Pick a time that fits around meals without making fasting or a special diet part of the appointment. Continue the treatment and advice you have agreed with your clinician. A well-being visit should fit around that plan, not replace it.
When to seek help
Blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss or persistent changes in symptoms should be assessed. Seek urgent help for sudden serious symptoms. Do not dismiss worsening symptoms after massage as detoxification or a sign that the body is healing. Contact a healthcare professional when the symptoms call for it.

Keep the purpose clear
If you want a quiet break, the treatment page can explain what the session involves. If you need help with digestion, assessment and appropriate advice come first. Both needs can exist at the same time, but should not be combined into one unsupported treatment promise.
